The Classic 2008

WOW! I'm speachless. Yes, the tall, skinny guy with the microphone can be speachless.

We had a great race this year, full of blistering times on the new coarse. When I saw the 10k times coming across this morning, I wondered if I had something wrong with the distances. Then I saw the accurate GPS reading on the course and was put back in my place. Congratulations to all that finished all three events.

Thank you so much for your help, donations, and support this year. I think the race went really well, but I'm just the tall, skinny guy that is pretty optimistic and outspoken. I want to hear what everyone else thought. Please drop me an email, post to our BLOG or give me a call. You have me contact information in your race bag. The honest and candid feedback we get from you, though it may hurt my pride sometimes, is what makes the race better. This is a race we organize for you the runner/walker. We want to improve it for you. So, send those firery darts, and the nice notes as well. Let us know what was good, and what wasn't so good.

Thanks again to all of our sponsors. Please visit our sponsors and let them know that you loved the race - because I'm sure you did. Our sponsors this year made it possible for most of your registrations fees to go directly to Heart Services and we're going to have quite the check to hand over to them - you know one of those big ones on cardboard. Thanks to you for making a difference in the community and saying "Yes, I can make a difference and I care about what happens in my community!"

Look for your 2008 results at the Stride Racing Website! I'll have them posted up on the blog later today. They'll also be on our awesome timing guys' (STRIDE RACING) website. You should see some results in tomorrow's Standard Examiner as well.

Thanks again for a great race this year. Look for us in the RED next year!

Great Race. We loved the course and the overall organization. One small suggestion. If this is a family friendly race, maybe offer shirts in smaller sizes.

You guys did a great job. I loved 5.75 miles of the race. I had a hard time picking up any steam at the end though. Small stuff, given how great of a job you did. The shirts rocked, and I had a blast!!!! See you next year.

I really enjoyed the race today. However, we didn't see any Porta-Potties along the route. I did see two women dash off and use someone's yard. I didn't find any bathrooms at the end of the race other than Layton amphitheater's. This is inadequate for 600 runners and even more volunteers. Please consider this factor in the race next year.

Thanks for putting organizing a fun morning for us in Layton! I plan on improving my time next year!

This was my first time doing this race. I think you did a great job and will definately plan on running it again in the future. Great bags and organization for the price. Thanks!

The race was great, I felt good about the small incline on the way up and the hill going back down. My only problem...I heard that it wasn't a true 10k (which of course is 6.4 miles), I saw that it was only 6.19 miles. Not that I'm complaining (it made my time better compared to a real 10k) but I would prefer it to be a race that's a true 10k! Maybe the course could be changed again to make it the TRUE 10k!!! Other that that, great times I had and you were all really nice and that little girl that sang before the race....adorable :) Good job!!

6.2 miles is a 10K not 6.4.

Well, what do you know! And to think, this whole time I thought a 5k was 3.2 miles, so I figured a 10k was double that at 6.4 miles. You learn something new every day don't you?!
Can't you tell that I'm new at running? :)
Thanks for clarifying!

BTW, that means I have no complaints and I thought the race was great! I'll be doing it next year for sure. Loved the shirts.

It doesn't look like the timing chip compensated for the start. It looks like there is only the finish time. Shouldn't there also be a time for crossing the start line since the reason for having the chips is so everyone can start at the same time and not be penalized for the overwhelming crowd holding them up prior to ever crossing the start line? Just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Great race however there were a few issues. I agree with the comment about the timing chip and the race start. There is no need for chips if you don't have a sensor at the start. Also I did not see a single porta potty on the course and only a single stall bathroom at the finish. Near the finish line there was a very small lane winding around the duck stream. It was very slow there due to people pushing baby strollers. There was no room to pass; I had to run on the grass. Maybe a few signs asking the public to stay off the course would help.

that was a fantastic course.

This was the first time I had run this race. IMO, the course was a well-balanced challenge with the first half basically being a gradual uphill and the second half being a gradual downhill. The volunteers were great and I personally appreciated all the people cheering me on though I know none of them knew me. The only issues I have is I agree with the number of bathrooms/porta potties at the start/finish. Usually there has to be "X" # of these per participants and I felt sorry for the women having to wait in line. The second issue is the food at the end. While people may have liked them, donuts/muffins are NOT a good recovery food. Appreciated the apples and oranges but bananas are one of the best recovery foods for a race like this. Thanks for a great race!

Without a timing mat at the start, you need to start the 10 K and the 5 K at DIFFERENT times. There was a huge jam up at the beginning, which really worsened when we went onto that first running trail. I felt like I was dodging an obstacle course of slow people. I'm positive that the cluster at the start negatively affected my finish time. I agree with the others comments so I won't repost them again - including thanks for a great race!

Overall the race was a great experience for me, but I too had issues at the end winding around the duck path. There were tons of peole meandering along, and I had to keep yelling out "excuse me" to get past. And somehow I made it through the morning without needing a restroom, but that is a very good point about not having enough (especially with all the spectators at the start/finish).

I'll definitely be back next year. Thanks!

I thought this was one of the most beautiful routes since I started running. I thought the course was pretty moderate, but with a nice tough hill at the end, it made it more of a challenge to get to the finish line! I love the running atmosphere from beginning to end, everybody starts out fresh and ends it with all their heart. All in all I thought this was all organized pretty well with the exception of adding more restrooms. Keep up the good job! See ya next Year!

This was a great race and I enjoyed the course, though I have to agree about the start/timing chip issue. Otherwise, the volunteers were fantastic and the goody bags and shirts were the best. Looking forward to next year's race.
